A good diet is a very important factor in taking good care of your eyes. Eat foods such as broccoli, bell peppers, and Brussels sprouts because they contain a lot of vitamin C. Salmon, tuna, sardines, trout, and halibut because they contain omega 3 fatty acids which protect the tiny blood vessels in your eyes. Sweet potatoes, carrots and spinach also promote good eye health because they contain beta carotene which is a potent antioxidant that reduces the risk of macular degeneration.
Don’t make a habit of using eye drops for tired eyes because chronic use can cause eye problems. Eye drops work by constricting the flow of blood to the eyes and thereby depriving it of oxygen. Eventually your eyes become accustomed to the eye drops and eventually these stop working. Instead of eye drops you can try putting cucumber slices, potato slices or tea bags over your tired eyes.
Don’t forget to replace your eye make-up at least every 6 months. Buy brands that don’t contain mercury which can damage your eyes and even cause blindness. And remember to remove your eye make-up before going to bed.
Always wear UV protective sunglasses when you are in the sun. Exposure to UV has been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye conditions.
